CNN Host Pier’s Morgan: The Bible Is Flawed
Recently Piers Morgan, host of CNN show Piers Morgan Tonight, interviewed best-selling author and megachurch pastor of Saddleback Church in California, Rick Warren. Morgan, already under significant scrutiny for his stance on gun control and the Second Amendment, successfully invited considerably more controversy by suggesting that an “amendment to the Bible” is needed to embrace homosexuality.
Warren, who was on the show to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the release of his widely popular book The Purpose Driven Life, was talking to Morgan about why the Bible is unlike any other book. In that conversation Morgan eluded to the idea that because the Bible says “if you commit adultery, you’re going to be stoned to death”, that it’s “an element of the Bible that is flawed”. Warren defended that statement by making implied reference that “for that generation, that’s their Commandment”, at which Morgan pounced again, stating “exactly my point”. “But, it’s not one of the moral laws,” Warren responded.
Morgan went on to say that he believes “both the Bible and the Constitution were well-intentioned, but they are basically, inherently flawed. Hence, the need to amend it. My point to you about gay rights, for example – It’s time for an amendment to the Bible.” He then suggested that Warren should compile a new Bible , to which Warren laughingly responded, “not a chance”. Perhaps Morgan’s suggestion was in reference to the new Queen James Bible that has changed eight verses in the Bible to make it more gay-friendly.
Warren went on to explain that the only thing flawed is mankind and its opinions, and eventually Morgan told him that they’d have to agree to disagree on the issue.
